I have been looking forward to this time of year for a long time! San Michele, the area where La Distesa’s vineyards are have a peculiar feature about them. Every year, as Spring arrives, wild tulips bloom everywhere. I missed this phenomenon last year as I arrived the week after the tulips died off. It’s interesting because it’s particularly the property area of La Distesa. None of the other neighboring vineyards seem to have this. feature. Even Corrado isn’t sure why the tulips are there. They just appear every year.
With a rough spring so far, we’ve only had one or two good days of sunshine. Unfortunately for me, the few days of sunshine we had were the days my camera decided to act up. I’m still trying to remedy it, but it looks like it’s finally time to take it into the shop as the problems become more frequent. I have a few photos taken with my phone camera to show you though.
It’s an enchanting sight to see…the tall green grass, dark bare vine trunks, sprinkled with a smattering of red tulips. I spent some good time laying in the tulips, letting the warm spring breezes take my thoughts away. Oh how I have waited for this moment. The tulips stuck around for a couple weeks before completely disappearing. The vineyard traded the wild tulips for some yellow flowers (sorry I’m not sure what the name is) and the bare trunks bursting with blooming buds within a week. It was fun while it lasted.
