How I got into concert photography, and the local music scene in general simply stems from my plain appreciation for local musicians. Austin Jenckes, whom I met at the Underground Coffeehouse one lazy college evening, captured my heart immediately. His powerful voice carries so much heart, the moment you hear it I can’t help but close my eyes so I can just take it all in. And then you have to reopen them again when you realize where it’s coming from is right in front of you.
I wish I could post a video of him I took the very first time I saw him but it’s on my other hard drive that completely crashed on me. I did manage to upload it to my facebook so if you’re friends with me you can watch it…if not..sorry!
This song is called “The Valley” which is about his hometown Duvall, WA. This video is from Fall 2007.
I share many memories of Austin including showing him my gelato tree and having a nice heart to heart on his deck during a gathering one winter evening. I didn’t know him well at the time, but I didn’t have to. He speaks with an open mind and heart so how could you not love him? I’ve watched his music grow from country/folk acoustic to a rocking band called Austin Jenckes and The First Call to who he is now. He’s one of those people you just love to watch grow and makes your eyes swell up watching him perform. Ok next to his mom and his girlfriend, that might just be me.
Austin recently moved to Nashville, TN and there is no doubt in my mind he will make it big. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met and I wish him the very best.
